It's Official! Jackie Johnson has been asked by Huey Lewis to join him on the Huey Lewis and the News 2011 WORLD TOUR! Jackie performed on Huey's album in the Spring of 2010, which was recorded right here in Memphis at Ardent Studios. Apparently, Jackie impressed with her usual outstanding vocals and humble, kind-hearted spirit enough to warrant such a tremendous opportunity! Jackie has confirmed that she will still be available for performances with the Memphis Sound Band when she is not traveling, so, we'll just have to schedule around Huey Lewis & The News! CONGRATULATIONS JACKIE! YOU DESERVE THIS!

When it comes to vocals The Memphis Sound Band™ answers the call. They've got lead vocals that will knock your socks off, and multi-talented musicians who are also strong vocalists, too! That's six vocals strong - and that's full!
Lead Female Vocalist Jackie Johnson has album credits ranging from Huey Lewis to Aaron Neville, and Rufus Thomas to Lenny Kravitz 5. She has been honored with the Premiere Player Female Vocalist of the Year Award in Memphis and is a festival favorite throughout the United States and Europe. Jackie performs complete sets in distinct musical formats ranging from Gospel to Blues, and Contemporary R&B to, well, The Memphis Sound...or she can mix them all up! You will definitely nod in agreement once you've heard her unforgettable voice! Aretha, Staple Singers, Tina Turner - all of them and more! Jackie also performed several song selections on the recent Denzel Washington movie The Great Debaters soundtrack, as well as July 2008 performances with Aaron Neville.
Lead Male Vocalist Woody Degan is an ward-winning major label-trained A&R Producer. He performs the male vocal responsibilities of band with strength, versatility, and emotion you can feel! From Al Green to Otis Redding, and Soul Man to Ain't No Sunshine, his renditions are keenly reminiscient of the soulful originals, while incorporating his own contemporary flair. White boy can sing! Woody also plays adds some keyboards to free up the other great talent in the band to do solos. He has performed with a wide array of superstars, including Sammy Davis, Jr., Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Rufus Thomas, Stevie Wonder, The Drifters, Vince Gill, Steve Cropper, Ike Turner, Hootie and The Blowfish, and Dishwalla. In addition to his vocal responsibilities, Woody plays keyboards. Woody is also recognised as one of the region's top Producers, planning, executing, and managing over 120 events per year...events ranging from major concerts to three day music festivals, corporate events, and even Presidential fundraisers. IN July 2008 he simultaneously produced two major concert events, one having attendance of over 17,000 and the other over 40,000. In 2009, he is scheduled to produce over 135 events comprised of over 400 Entertainment acts!
Together Jackie, Woody, and the other musicians in this band make for some great vocal harmonies! Yes, that's five and six vocals of live Memphis Musical Entertainment! No computer aided sequencing and no tape!
The Memphis Sound Band™'s Rhythm Section is a hand-picked group of some of the most talented and recognized band-members in Memphis Music today! Neal Bowen, Music Director, Bassist extraordinaire, composer, instructor, and computer genius, brings an effortless virtuosity, rhythm, and groove to the bottom end that bears listening to - and watching! His comprehensive knowledge of musical theory and teaching experience, are just two reasons why he is the Musical Director of the band. Neal can not only direct the other players on what to play where, but step over into their realm and play it for them himself - on keys, guitar, etc., and if you have a question on Music Theory, Neal is your man! The other half of the 'low-end' equation is multi-talented Drummer / Percussionist Lafayette Adair, who provides a rhythm foundation second to none. Gene Nunez is a well respected Memphis guitarist with numerous cd album releases to his credit. Plus, he's got a repertoire that is second to none - a walking musical dictionary! His recent addition has added the consistency and dependability on guitar that the band needed! ...And Elwood 'Woody' Degan pulls double duty, adding some simple and effective keyboards tops to the already exceptional rhythm section. Mike Neal provides the unmistakeable and authentic Memphis horn sound on Saxophone, flute, and strong Backing Vocals, while Mark Franklin tops of the brass with some great Trumpet!
The Memphis Sound Band™ is the Official Performing Artist and Musical Entertainment of the Memphis Redbirds, our AAA home-town baseball team of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Organization.

This note is SO late...and it should be handwritten to boot! Been trying to regroup since the wedding and have not been very successful... WHAT I WANTED TO SAY WAS....The Band MADE the reception! I don't think you could've gotten one more person on the dance floor the WHOLE night! It could've gone on for HOURS more and we'd all have loved it!
I thanked the band members telling them what a difference they made in the party and how professional they all were. There was a power problem that no one but the band and myself seemed to know about 'cause there was a LONG drum solo and the woman singer came down and danced with the kids, it was adorable!
Woody was so kind, talented and fun! We truly enjoyed every second! The best part was that the band told me they were having fun too! It showed and was contagious!!!!!
THANKS for helping to make my daughter's special day PERFECT!

I'd love to get the run-down of who each musician has/does play with/for...I heard some very famous names in there at the reception...but I think I killed those brain cells ....we stayed on Beale Street 'til 430 am!!! THANKS!
